What You Haven’t Been Told About Hypertension and Stroke
Carol was an exceptionally active woman in her early 50s. In addition to being an ace tennis player and an experienced sailor, she was one of those rare individuals who never met a stranger. Her house was the gathering place for her kids and their buddies as well as her extended family of friends and neighbors. In an instant, however, the entire fabric of Carol’s life was torn apart when she was struck down by a stroke.
Every year, nearly 750,000 Americans suffer a stroke, which is caused by the cessation of blood flow to an area of the brain. More than 150,000 of them die, making stroke the third-leading cause of death in this country.
For Carol and the majority of those who do survive, lingering speech, motor, and/or vision problems may result in profound changes in functional status, activity levels, and quality of life. What makes this even more tragic is that up to 80 percent of all strokes can be prevented. How? By controlling your blood pressure.
High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, differs from many conditions in that it causes no pain — and its warning signs are subtle enough to go unnoticed for years. Since there are so few early symptoms, you may not even know your blood pressure is out of control unless you get it checked regularly. In fact, 35 percent of Americans who have hypertension are unaware of it.
This is unfortunate, for excessive pressure on the blood vessels overworks the heart and dramatically increases the risk of heart attack, heart failure, kidney problems, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease — and stroke. Bottom line: The single most important thing you can do to protect yourself from a stroke is to get your blood pressure under control.
Powerful Therapies From China...
Another natural therapy for hypertension that we use at the clinic is Balance3. This Chinese herbal remedy is made from seven herbs: all-heal flower, chrysanthemum flower, honeysuckle flower, notoginseng root, water fairy flower, shiitake mushroom, and pagoda tree flower. We have found that it lowers blood pressure rapidly and consistently in a majority of patients who give it a try.
We’ve treated scores of patients with Balance3 with terrific results. Atypical patient is Lorraine, who has had hypertension for years. Before starting on Balance3, her blood pressure ran around 170/100. After treatment, it averaged 130/70. Although there are no published studies on this product, it appears that the herbs work together to dilate blood vessels and improve blood flow.
Patients also report that Balance3 helps them sleep better, and that is one of the product’s claims. Although the suggested dose for hypertension is one tablet with breakfast and dinner and another two or three at bedtime, some patients find that the daytime doses make them sleepy. They’ve cut back to taking it only at night and still report good results with blood pressure control.
